Gutters from £20 a side Fascias from £80 12-month guarantee

Two jobs that belong together

Most people ring about the gutters. Then they look up and notice the boards underneath have gone green and streaked.

It's the same problem in two places. Water sits in a blocked gutter, overflows down the front, and runs across the fascia below it — feeding exactly the algae that's staining it. Clean one and leave the other, and you're back where you started inside a year.

Done together, in one visit, it's cheaper than two call-outs and it actually stays clean.

Gutter blocked with moss and silt before clearing, North Lanarkshire

Gutter clearing

from £20 a side

Cleared by hand, run by run, so the joints, brackets and outlets get looked at while the debris comes out. Downpipes flushed either way — a clear gutter feeding a blocked downpipe still overflows. Photos if you want to see what was up there.

How it's done

01Gutters emptied, not just pokedMoss, silt and leaf mulch are lifted out by hand and bagged — nothing left on your path or in the borders.
02Cleared by hand, off the ladderEvery run is cleared by hand from the ladder. It's the only way to actually see the state of the joints, brackets and downpipe outlets while you're clearing them. Debris is bagged and taken away, not dropped in the borders.
03Fascias soft-washedWorked from the ground with a water-fed pole. Solution does the work, not pressure. High pressure scars uPVC and drives water behind the boards — and scarred plastic greens up twice as fast.
04Rinsed with pure waterDeionised final rinse so nothing dries back on. No detergent film left for the next lot of algae to feed on.

Every downpipe flushed through and checked for a blockage before I leave — a clear gutter feeding a blocked downpipe still overflows.

What it costs

The ranges exist because a two-storey detached with a conservatory in the way isn't the same job as a bungalow you can walk round. Send a photo and you get one fixed number, not a range.

Booking both together is always cheaper than two separate visits — one trip, one setup, one bill.

12-month guarantee on the fascias

If the green comes back within twelve months of the clean, I come back and redo it. No charge, no argument. That's the whole guarantee — it doesn't need small print.

Why it's worth doing before winter

It's the wall that paysWater going over the front of a gutter runs down the render or pointing, storm after storm. The damp patch shows up inside months later and nobody connects the two.
Frost splits full guttersWater sitting in a blocked gutter through a hard frost expands and splits joints, then pulls brackets out of the fascia.
Rotting fascia behind the gutterA gutter overflowing at the back rather than the front soaks the board it's screwed to. Cleaning is cheap; replacing a run of roofline is not.
It gets harder to shiftLeft for years, growth works into the surface of the uPVC. Still cleanable, but it becomes a longer and dearer job.

Straight answers

Will the fascias actually come back white, or just cleaner?

Almost always properly white. Algae, moss and traffic film sit on the surface and lift off. What won't come back is uPVC that has genuinely oxidised — chalky, dull plastic on very old boards, usually south-facing. I'll tell you which one you've got from the photo, before you've paid anything.

Do you use a pressure washer?

Not on uPVC. Pressure scars the surface and drives water behind the boards into the roof timbers. Scarred plastic then holds dirt and greens up faster. Soft washing takes longer and is the reason I can offer the guarantee.

How often do gutters actually need doing round here?

Once a year for most Lanarkshire houses, twice if you're under mature trees. The important visit is late August to mid-September — before the first autumn storm, not after it. Our leaf fall runs later than the textbooks say and the rain arrives before it finishes.

Do you need to get in the house or the back garden?

No. Gutters are done from outside off the ladder, fascias and soffits from the ground with a pole. You don't need to be in, and you don't need to move anything.

How long does it take?

Gutters on a semi: under an hour. Fascias and soffits: two to three hours. Both together on an average semi is a half-day job, one visit.

Are you insured?

Yes — Public Liability. Happy to send the certificate before you book, and I'd suggest asking anyone who quotes you for the same.

Is it really just you?

Yes. One person, every visit, start to finish. You won't get a different face each time, and the person who quotes you is the person who does the work.
